Testing the Volt's braking system at the Milford Proving Grounds (w/Video)

Valerie Boatman, a Performance Integration Engineer for GM has been putting the Volt's braking system through it's paces at the test at the Milford Proving Grounds. The Volt uses an electrohydraulic brake system developed by TRW that is based on the same technology used for the two-mode hybrid trucks. The system uses a high-pressure hydraulic accumulator to provide brake boost because vacuum is not available when the range extender is not running.

The engineers spend 8 - 10 hour days on end at facilities like the Milford proving ground, as well at hot and cold weather facilities, evaluating the performance on all kinds of different surfaces and during various dynamic maneuvers.
